646f9e108c After a clumsy operation trying to capture a drug dealer, the N.Y.P.D Detectives Jimmy Monroe and Paul Hodges are suspended for one month by their Captain Romans. Jimmy decides to sell his rare baseball card to pay for his daughter's expensive wedding while his jealous partner believes that his wife is cheating on him with their next-door neighbor. When Jimmy sells his card to a memorabilia store, the place is burgled by two small-time thieves and the detective loses his card. They track down the thieves.

Paul, Jimmy's partner, thinks his wife is two-timing him with a neighbor, so he hides a video camera in their bedroom. Jimmy can get money for the wedding by selling a rare baseball card, which he loses when the dealer he's selling it to is robbed. The robbery is connected to the thugs running drugs, as the partners discover when they search for the card. Will Paul be a cuckold and Jimmy upstaged at his daughter's wedding?
Kevin Smith is a talented writer, but a less than stellar director. He&#39;s the first to admit it. So, it was a surprise when he signed on to helm an action-comedy starring Bruce Willis. What isn&#39;t a surprise is that he copped out. There&#39;s only three action scenes. One in the beginning with Willis and Tracy Morgan chasing a drug dealer. Another in the middle with the drug dealer chasing them. And a big shootout at the end. Smith needs to man up. First he turns down the Green Hornet, then he chickened out on a horror film titled Red State, and now this. Smith said that Cop Out was a tribute to &#39;80s buddy cop movies. He even hired Harold Faltermeyer (Beverly Hills Cop, Top Gun, Fletch, Tango &amp; Cash) to do the score. Instead he delivered something in the same category as Police Academy.<br/><br/>Willis stars as Jimmy and Morgan as Paul. They are cops in the narcotics unit who get suspended with no pay for 30 days as a result of a major screw-up. Jimmy doesn&#39;t mind the suspension, but hates not getting a paycheck since he needs the money to pay for his daughter&#39;s wedding. Out of desperation he decides to sell a baseball card that&#39;s worth $80,000. His daughter&#39;s wedding costs $48,000. Did she really expect him to pay that bill on a cop&#39;s salary? No. She&#39;s counting on her rich step-father, played by 39-year-old actor Jason Lee, but Jimmy has too much pride. While in the process of selling his card he is robbed by Seann William Scott. You&#39;re still with me? Okay. So, afterwards, Jimmy goes looking for Scott&#39;s character and when he finds him he demands to know what happened to his baseball card. He is informed that it was sold to a drug dealer. The same drug dealer who got him suspended. What a coincidence.<br/><br/>Dumb plot and lack of action aside, it is a funny flick. It&#39;s not hilarious, but it is funny. Morgan has his moments, but the real highlight is Scott. Then again, Scott has been a scene stealer since American Pie. You can never go wrong with Stifler. So, is it worth the price of admission? Nope. Not at all. It&#39;s not even worth a matinée price. But it is a rental or waiting till HBO premieres it a year from now.
I usually walk away from blockbuster movies with big name actors feeling unsatisfied, unfulfilled and disappointed. If you told me &quot;there&#39;s a new cop movie out with Bruce Willis&quot;, I would have thought &quot;Oh great, I don&#39;t want to actually waste my time watching a movie I can sit predict in my head before hand&quot;. Cop Out left me pleasantly surprised with it&#39;s unpredictability. Many times with this type of movie I catch myself giving it a courtesy laugh just so the people around me don&#39;t think I take things too seriously. However, I gave up several moments of genuine laughter during this movie, particularly at the strange character played by Seann Scott. I did find Tracey Morgan to be a little less funny than his SNL characters and overall the movie wasn&#39;t anything profound or entirely new. I should have known, this movie being directed by Kevin Smith, but I really didn&#39;t care for the proliferating foul language.
A movie that makes little sense, is dumb when it's not being stupid and yet is still at times laugh-out-loud funny.

He realized his life circumstances had changed from the days of &quot;Clerks&quot; and &quot;Mallrats&quot; and that to try to write a movie like that at this stage of his life wouldn&#39;t be honest. He liked the script for &quot;A Couple of Dicks&quot; (the original and working title of &quot;Cop Out&quot;) and loved growing up watching buddy cop movies with his dad. <a href="/name/nm0005134/">Jason Lee</a>, who frequently works with Smith, appears in a brief (two scene) role as the step-father of Jimmy Monroe (<a href="/name/nm0000246/">Bruce Willis</a>)&#39;s daughter. <a href="/name/nm0005405/">Seann William Scott</a>, <a href="/name/nm0605079/">Tracy Morgan</a>, and <a href="/name/nm0640756/">Ernest O&#39;Donnell</a> appear in this film as well.
